chrysanthemum festival

The highlight of our weekend was attending the Hirosaki Chrysanthemum Festival. We were up way too early for a Saturday, but the day was really great. We packed a picnic lunch, hopped on a bus, and spent the day walking around the beautiful grounds of Hirosaki Castle. The weather could not have been more perfect and the leaves are starting to change. There were not as many chrysanthemums as I was expecting, considering the festival's namesake, but there was plenty to see otherwise. We really enjoyed being outside, hanging out together, and having a chance to get out of Misawa on one of the last nice weekends we'll probably see for a while.

We had a mellow Sunday, resting up from a day of walking and prepping for days of Halloween celebrations. Little One painted our big pumpkin today--a loose interpretation of the paint-a-skull kit Hubs had bought--and her costume is at the ready. On Tuesday evening we're going to see a reading of Where the Wild Things Are, during school Wednesday Little One has a Fall Festival, after school is trick-or-treating and a party at my office, and then trick-or-treating around base. We're going to have quite the busy Wednesday around here! I'm already geared up to have the crockpot going so we're not tempted to eat fast food on a junk-filled day.

How was your weekend? Did you celebrate Halloween early? Do you have any fancy plans for Wednesday?

  1. What an adventure! Looks like a beautiful place to visit :) I'm awaiting the storm on the US east coast and thankful for having power while we do!
Stopping by from #YOLOmondays (and I'm an Air Force brat)!

  2. It looks like you had a great time. Those pictures are beautiful! Oh and I left you an award on my blog. :)

Thanks for reading!
